Library Service
We've put together a comprehensive collection of self-help books that could prove useful to survivors of sexual assault. They've been read and recommended by both our staff and our users. Books are available on loan to clients who wish to borrow from the recommended list.
- "Courage to Heal" (A guide for Women Survivors), by Ellen Bass
- "Breaking Free", by Carolyn Ainscough
- "Victims No Longer", by Mike Lew (For men)
- "Leaping Upon The Mountains, Men Proclaiming Victory Over Childhood Abuse'
- "Rescuing the Inner Child", by Penny Parks
- "The Survivors Guide", by Fay Maxted and Robert Kelly
- "Mothers Surviving Child Sexual Abuse", by Carol-Ann Hooper (for women whose children have been abused)
If you would like to recommend a book to add to our collection, please do not hesitate to contact us via our contact page.
For non-clients, the Plymouth Library service is working with local doctors and mental health professionals to offer a book prescription scheme for people who want to use books to help themselves.
A list of recommended self-help books have been bought for libraries across the city. These cover a variety of subject not neccessarily relating to sexual abuse.
A prescription is issued by health professionals which can then be exchanged for the book at your local library.
