How you can help
Too many abusers rely on the silence and fear of their victims to shield them from justice. Though you might feel that you have lost control, the power of 'what happens next' still remains with you. If you want to seek justice you can help us by:
• Writing down the name and address of any witnesses
• Writing down the names of people you were socialising with
• If you took a bus or taxi write down the name of the company and estimated times.
• Writing down the name of the first person you told.
If you decide to report to the police you can help them to capture maximum evidence by:
• Not washing
• Not brushing your teeth
• Not having a cigarette
• Not eating or drinking
• Not changing your clothes (or keep them safely to one side)
• Trying not go to the toilet and not disposing of any sanitary wear
• Not clearing up anything from the area of the incident.
Don't worry if you have already done some of these things. It is quite possible that there is still evidence to collect as well as injuries that can be documented. If more than 24-48 hours has passed, it is likely that you have done all of these things. Don't worry - DNA can still be found days later. It is still worth reporting.
