Sexually Assaulted in the past?
Although it is unlikely that there will be a forensic evidence to support a criminal justice outcome, it is still very important that you consider aspects of the disclosure to support an investigation.
Do complete a Disclosure Form for your records.
Do not ask any leading questions
Do take the names and contact details of any witnesses.
Do ascertain if there is any further threat to a child. Is there a Child Protection Issue?
Do ensure that your client has received screening for sexually transmitted infections.
Do ask your patient if they would like to access practical and emotional support at a specialist Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC) or Rape Crisis Centre
Do ask your client if they would like to report to the police. This can be done by making a referral to an Independent Sexual Violence Advisor (ISVA) or by contacting the police on 08452 777 444.
