Independent Sexual Violence Advisors

ISVAs are professionally trained specialists who work with victims shortly after an attack has been reported - initial contact might take place along with emergency services, for example. They will then continue to offer help throughout the investigation and legal process that follows, and beyond.

Twelves Company employs two ISVAs; each based at the Plymouth Sexual Assault Referral Centre.

Their own work will link with the work of other essential services such as victim and witness organisations, counsellors and health agencies. The ISVAs work with those organisations to ensure the safety of the victim is taken into account throughout the process.

The ISVAs at Twelves Company can provide information and advice on the criminal justice process so that clients can make an informed decision about whether to report the assault to the police or not. If the client wishes, The ISVA can assist a client to report and facilitate the first contact with a specially trained officer
